2015 Parkes Elvis Festival – 7 – 11 January
Celebrating Elvis Presley’s 80th Birthday – Carnival Style
It’s been over 37 years since Elvis left the building, yet an expected 18,000+ Elvis fans will gather in the Central NSW town of Parkes, doubling the population, to celebrate Elvis Presley’s birthday in January.
Roustabout is the theme that has been announced for the 2015 Parkes Elvis Festival which will take place from the 7-11 January in Parkes, NSW for the 23rd consecutive year. The Festival began back in 1993 to celebrate the birthday of the King of Rock n Roll and now 23 years later, Elvis’ 80th birthday will be celebrated in true party style with a carnival atmosphere.
The 1964 release of musical feature film “ROUSTABOUT’ saw Elvis play a singer who takes a job with a struggling travelling carnival which provides a great platform to theme the 2015 Parkes Elvis Festival in a bright, colourful and fun way for Elvis’ 80th birthday celebrations.
The film’s soundtrack was one of Elvis Presley’s most successful, reaching number #1 on the Billboard Album Chart. The happy carnival theme provides scope for dressing up in anything from Gypsy fortune teller, motorcycle rider or muscle men to Harem ladies with ‘Little Egypt’ being one of the most popular songs from movie.
It is becoming apparent that the Parkes Elvis Festival is something that should be on everyone’s bucket list, and why wouldn’t it be, when people of all ages can don a wig and glasses and re-live the rock n roll era of Elvis that took the world by storm.
The festival features a jam-packed 5-day program of events including a Miss Priscilla Competition, the Elvis Street Parade, Cars of the Era Show, free main stage entertainment, look-a-like contests, Tribute to Elvis Competition, Elvis Gospel Service, Renewal of Wedding Vows, Busking Competition, Poets Breakfast, displays of Elvis memorabilia (including Greg Page’s: The Kings Castle), Wall of Fame, and over 150 unique Elvis-style events.
